Unlike CBD, THC will get you “high” because of its attraction to the abundance of CB1 receptors in the brain, especially in the limbic system.
The limbic system lies in the center of your brain and controls emotion, behaviour, hunger, thirst and response to pleasure or pain. The distortion of this system can lead to the psychoactive effects you feel when smoking marijuana.
But interestingly, if you are ever feeling too “high” from THC you can use CBD to negate the effect of this psychoactivity.
The subsequent CBD will bind to a different site on the CB1 receptor than where the THC has binded, causing it to change shape.
This new shape losens the binding of the THC, and in so doing can lessen the activation of the CB1 receptors that causes the “high”.
